Stupid quote of the month: July
Norfolk police have announced they will supply Muslim detainees with compasses to allow them to face Mecca when praying – unless considered at risk of self-harm. Here’s TPA chief executive Matthew Elliot’s reaction:
“These people may be criminals and should be treated as such.
“The fact that law-abiding taxpayers are having to pay for these compasses, and that staff are having to waste time carrying out risk assessments, is ludicrous.
“Behaviour like this leaves right-minded people questioning the priorities of the police.”
So how much does each compass cost?
30p.

Nice new legal status there as well, people who “may be criminals”.

So where is the presumption of innocence here then?
